Kenoza Lake, New York Residence

RKLA Studio is currently collaborating on this lakefront property on the western edge of the Catskill Mountains in upstate New York. Much of our work has focused on working with the design and construction team on the location of the main house, driveway, septic, and parking on this steeply sloped site. The house and 1300’ long driveway are nestled into a mature woodland with sweeping views of the lake. One of the first steps of the project was to bring in an arborist to clear dead or dying trees. Other tree removal was very limited in order to preserve the woodland views from the large windows and 40-foot accordion doors lining the lake side of the living space.

Materials found on site are being reused wherever possible. The under-construction spa is set within a boulder wall and incorporates rock seating that was sourced from elsewhere on the site during excavation. The patio and façade of the house are supplemented with stone also found on site. Elements that have yet to be constructed include a future outdoor kitchen, guest house and parking, boat dock, fire pit area, running trails and boardwalks. Construction is anticipated to be completed by Summer 2023.
