Upper Eastside Townhouse II

The vertical Ipe boards on end and cut-out detailing of this fence bring dappled light and air into this urban green space. An L-shaped stucco seatwall, which doubles as a raised plant bed, continues the Ipe detailing with a wood seat top. In this small garden, the seatwall provides flexible seating for warm weather family meals and larger gatherings. Reached via a glass stairway, a small terrace off the parlor level living room provides a more private spot from which to enjoy the garden.

In the front garden, the materials of bluestone and clay—as seen in the pavers and planters—are repeated to bring continuity throughout all the garden spaces. A multi-stemmed dogwood, evergreen underplantings, and seasonal color provide year-round interest to this street facing garden.
